Characters are inscribed on the leaf and rubbed with a mixture of lamp soot and oil. Few survive more than 100 years in Bali’s tropical climate. There are only about four lines of text on each leaf. The leaves are bound and held together by string.

Background: This style of baby-carrier is from East Kalimantan. The baby is carried on the mother's back. The beads are on rattan and the base is wood. The baby-carrier is decorated with animal teeth. The motifs are intended to protect the baby's body and soul. The baby-carrier looks fantastic as a wall hanging.

Background: The eternal battle between good and evil, light and darkness, heaven and the underworld, is depicted in Bali as a fight between two mythical being, the basically good Barong and the basically wicked, bloodthirsty witch Rangda. The Barong usually taken the form of a keket, which corresponds to no known animal, but sometimes as a tiger, buffalo or boar. This Barong mask is a Barong Keket. It has a loose lower jaw that can be manipulated by the dancer.
