Wayang Klitik are painted, flat wooden puppets. It is unknown when they were first used but there is a reference to them in 1735. Their use has declined as the effects achievable by wayang kulit, leather puppets, are greater. They are difficult to find. They were used without a screen in East Java into the beginning of the 20th century for Panji tales. They are also known as wayang krucil.
