Maps of Murni’s Houses

We have 2 maps of Murni’s Houses – 2 are in Chinese.  Murni’s Houses is about 5 minutes walk from the town centre.

From the town centre, start on the side of the main road where the market is, opposite the palace, and go towards Murni’s Warung.

Go past Jalan Bisma and we are the next on the left.

Go up the ramp at the aqueduct on the main road opposite the temple – there’s a sign at the top – left at the top and 2nd gate on the right.

RESIDENTIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SPA PACKAGES

murni murnis-houses

Murni has created 2 very special Residential Photography and Spa Packages at Murni’s Houses.

Stay at Murni’s Houses with its lovely garden full of sculptures and tribal art objects, which the New York Times said is one of the best small hotels in the world and that was even before Murni improved it!

lake-david

Join David and/or Nyoman , two of Bali’s best photographers, and explore the best photographic areas of Ubud and the surrounding mountains away from the tourist trail. You will be shooting in stunning locations and guided with practical photographic tips to enhance your photography skills. They cater for all levels, from beginner to advanced.

spa-facial

Relax at the popular Tamarind Spa at Murni’s Houses, which many say is the best spa in Bali, and a spa enthusiast even said was the best spa in the world (and she should know).

Murnis Warung Ubud6-small
Dine at the historic Murni’s Warung which was first real international restaurant in Ubud, now celebrating 42 years, in its stunning, riverside gorge, a real photogenic location, and try Bali’s most famous local dishes.
What you get on the Photography Tours

Hands-on photo tips whilst photographing, including use of filters, shooting on manual, landscape photography, capturing light, understanding depth of field, aperture, composition, the use of light meters and engaging with your subject.

You will be taken to different locations capturing the best light to optimize your shots – remote locations, which have been sourced after years of research.

David-Nyoman-small

David is very passionate about photography and leads tours throughout Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and the USA.
He is a skilled and patient teacher.

Nyoman is a local Balinese photographer, born and raised in Ubud.
Nyoman’s special connection with the local villages means you will be exploring places and witnessing ceremonies that very few tourists get to.

What to bring?

Any type of camera from point and shoot to DSLR. i-Phone and i-Pad are fine.

Group Size

We aim to limit the groups to a maximum of 6 people to ensure individual attention.

Taksu Photo Gallery

You will visit Taksu Gallery, David’s new photography gallery in Ubud to review your photos and where you can have quality prints made on the spot. Take home spectacular images of Bali.

David is a professional photographer with an in depth knowledge of Nikon equipment. Nyoman has extensive knowledge of Canon functionality.

David’s photography is widely published in airline magazines, newspapers and several leading lifestyle magazines.

You will gain a deeper understanding of your camera and how to maximize it for the best results.

David’s Gallery is something very different from normal photo galleries. He is very passionate about the beautiful island of Borneo and has many programs and projects to support the Dayak people and preserve their forests.

When you order your print or any prints in Taksu Photo Gallery 100% of the profits go to support these projects, including an education program in poor villages, a Dayak dance academy and a film he is making. David will explain more about this when you visit the Gallery.

Murni’s Bali Tours

Murni’s Bali Tours

ABOUT MY TOURS

Tours of Bali routinely offered by travel agents and drivers haven’t really changed for decades, at least not since I was a girl. But there are now a lot of exciting new places to visit and I want my guests at Murni’s Houses to see them all: Murni’s Bali Tours.

bali, sunrise Murni's Bali Tours Lake Batur Murni's Bali Tours Mount Batur

I would also like my guests to have helpful and accurate information about these fresh destinations, so I’ve put together a whole new set of trips – Murni’s Bali Tours – and ebook, which you can carry along as an easy-to-read guide.

As well as including the classic jewels in the Balinese crown, Murni’s Bali Tours cover off the beaten track destinations too, special places away from the mainstream. We have covered a range of interests in each new tour, so whether you are a temple lover, an art aficionado or a history buff, there will be something special just for you.

We’ve also included some wonderful short walks, such as a trek through a cool tropical bamboo forest or a walk along the beautifully terraced rice paddies, or even a refreshing dip in a towering waterfall.

As far as possible our drivers will keep off the main roads and personally accompany you to the sites (unless you don’t want them to). Bear in mind that in some places this is not allowed and local guides are required.

Remember that almost every place has a small entrance charge of a few dollars or a donation. This is needed by local people for expenses such as basic maintenance of the buildings and sites.

Food and meals outside the main tourist areas are not usually of the highest standard and sometimes restaurants are hard to find. Please discuss with the driver what time you would like to eat and he will give you the options and an idea of the price you might expect to pay.

Bring sun cream, a hat and your camera. Above all, be ready for adventure and have fun. The great thing about Bali is to expect the unexpected. You never know when you may come across something really important and exciting, like a religious procession winding down the road with a gamelan orchestra or even a temple ceremony with Balinese dancers. That’s why, like me, you need to be ready to change your plans at the drop of a hat and enjoy the moment.

Murni’s Houses Garden

Murni’s Houses Garden

Wander round Murni’s Houses Garden and enjoy Murni’s collection of stone carvings by Wayan Cemul, one of Bali’s most famous sculptors.

Born in 1927, he was Murni’s father’s cousin. Cemul produced non-conventional statues that were quintessentially Balinese in character and full of comic playfulness.

Murni also has a number of stonecarvings from other islands in Indonesia, for example, Sumba, which is famous for them.

There are also a large number of Buddha statues in various positions. Always look for the expression as you admire them.

Until you can see them in person, please enjoy a few of them now.

Needless to say it’s a photographer’s paradise.
