Batukaru and Jatiluwih Village Tour

Bali Butterfly Park - There are 100s of Indonesian butterflies in this large enclosed space. Many are extremely beautiful. There is a small entrance charge.

Hot Spring - Enjoy a dip or just a view of a lovely natural Balinese hot spring.

Subak Museum, Tabanan - We drive through the attractive capital of Tabanan, which houses the Subak Museum devoted to the subak. The subak is the rice farmers' association, dating back a a 1,000 years, regulating rice cultivation, irrigation and harvesting. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 22) examines the role of rice and (Chapter 44) the subak organisation.

Batukaru - Mt Batukaru, in the west of Bali, means "coconut shell" mountain. It is 2,276 metres and Bali's 2nd highest mountain. Pura Batukaru, one of the Sad Kahyangan group of temples, is on the mountain slope and some say it's Bali's oldest temple. It is surrounded by forest and the weather is often damp and misty. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 33) discusses the various types of temple in Bali.

Jatiluwih Village - The name of this tiny village means "truly marvellous" and it is. Situated more than 850 metres up Mt Batukaru it gives a magnificent view of the landscape and rice terraces of a large part of South Bali.

Candikuning - Candikuning is on the west of Lake Bratan and a horticultural centre. There is a daily market, specialising in herbs, spices and potted plants.

Alas Kedaton - A sacred forest with cool, peaceful walks and over 800 monkeys. There is a small entrance charge.
