Mount Batur Volcano Tour Batubulan Village - Batubulan means "moonstone" and is renowned for stonecarving. The temples around Batubulan have fine stonework. We will visit Pura Puseh. Murni commissions stone carvings from carvers hidden away off the beaten track and much cheaper than those on the main road. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 48) discusses stonecarving and woodcarving in Bali. Celuk Village - If you wish we can visit the silver and goldsmith centre of Bali, but, as the Lonely Planet Guide says, the prices are quite high and the variety and quality of the designs are not as good as those in the shops and no cheaper. We suggest you go to a shop on your own, such as Murni's Warung Shop, where the range and prices will be better. Batuan Village - This artistic village dates back in recorded history to 1022AD and is famous for its detailed painting style featuring scenes from daily Balinese life such as markets, rice fields and a touch of magic. Secrets of Bali (Chapters 46 and 47) discusses painting in Bali. Mas Village - Mas means "gold" but fine wood carving is the traditional art of the priestly Brahmana caste in this village. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 48) discusses woodcarving and stonecarving in Bali. Gunung Kawi - Gunung Kawi is one of Bali's oldest and largest ancient monuments. It is a spectacular and elaborate complex of rock cut royal tombs, shrines and monks' caves built in the 11th century on the sides of the Pakrisan River. It is reached by about 300 steps and there is a small entrance charge. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 7) discusses the old Balinese Kings and Gunung Kawi. Kintamani - We will stop for a drink or snack and enjoy the best views of Mount Batur, a live volcano, which is often smoking, and Lake Batur. Secrets of Bali (Chapter 42) discusses the fascinating temples of Pura Ulun Danu and Pura Ulun Danu Batur.
