Background: In the Ramayana story Dasamuka appeared as an old ascetic and lured Sinta out of the magic circle Rama had put her in and flew off with her to Langka.

Jatayu saw this and tried to rescue her, but was no match for the giant Dasamuka.

Rama had been searching for the golden deer for Sinta but couldn’t catch it, so he shot it with his arrow, whereupon it turned back into the dying Maritja, who had assumed the form of the deer. Rama hurried away, met his brother Lesmono and discovered Sinta’s abduction.

They heard the dying Jatayu, who told them what had happened. They set off for Langka.
