Background: In the Ramayana story, for years there was bitterness between Dasarata, King of Ayodhya and the giant Dasamuka, King of Langka. Both were rivals for two goddesses, Kaualyaand Kaikeyi. Dasarata won both times.
Eventually Dasamuka was able to get his revenge by abducting Dasarata’s son Rama’s wife, Sinta, and war ensued.
At the height of the final battle every time Rama shot off Dasamuka’s head with one of his magic arrows, it was reunited with the body until Hanoman, the Monkey Warrior, snatched a mountain top and crushed the headless body.
Sinta and Tridjata were rescued from Langka. Rama appointed Wibisana as the new King of Langka and instructed him to rebuild it.
Rama and Sinta were reunited and returned to Ayodhya with Lesmono and Hanoman. Barota welcomed them and Rama was crowned. Sinta was looked on with suspicion, and to prove her purity she asked for a pyre to be lit. She emerged from it unscathed and together with Rama they ruled Ayodhya for many years.
His coarse features and bulging eyes mark him as an unsympathetic character, despite the kingly adornments of elaborate crown, sumptuous jewelry and fine clothes.
