Kecak Dance
Type: VCD
Style: Batubulan, Bali
Programme: Kecak
Order Number: CD2
Background: The most famous of Balinese dances, the Kecak, originated from the Sanghyang trance dance. The dance gets its name from men chanting “kechak-kechak”. This represents the chatterings of monkeys. There is no orchestra.
The dance, developed in the 1930s, taken from the Ramayana epic, tells the story of King Rama, who, with the help of the monkey army, tries to rescue his beautiful wife, Sita, from the evil King Rawana. It is a very exciting dance. The dancers dance within large circles of chanting men, waving their arms, swaying to and fro in time with the chants.
