Background: The Legong is a very graceful, classical dance, always performed by very young girls, usually about 8 or 9 years old.

It tells the story of Princess Rangkesari, who is held prisoner by King Lakesmi. Her brother, Prince Daha, gathers an army to rescue her. To avoid war she tries to persuade the King to release her. He refuses. On the way to battle Daha is attacked by a raven, a bad omen. He dies in battle. The dance ends at the point the king departs for battle.
