Barong and Keris Dance
Type: VCD
Style: Bali
Programme: 6 tracks
Order Number: CD14
Background: This dance is about the struggle between good and evil. Good is personified by the Barong, a strange, fun-loving charcter in the shape of a shaggy lion. Evil is represented by Rangda, the witch. They have a battle.
The Barong’s followers rush at Rangda with their keris knives. Rangda uses her powers to make them turn their krisses upon themselves. They fall into trance and the Barong thereby protects his people.
In the end, Ranggda retreats, but everyone knows that she will return. The performance ends and a local priest gets the dancers out of trance by sprinkling holy water on them.
