Background: Rarung is one of the female characters in the Calonarang dance drama based on the story of the 11th century King Erlangga, who was born in Bali, and became one of the greatest kings of Java. Colonarang is the wdow witch who becomes Rangda and Rarung is a pupil who has reached a fairly high degree of proficiency in witchcraft. Rarung possesses the ability to dispose of objects (dead bodies), and is sometimes called the Red Rangda. The powerful drama is always played at night.
