Called a toran, these decorations were unique to every household and handmade by the women of the house. The good ones indicate the owner’s wealth and have many mirrors to reflect specks of light and lots of different colours. This is because the walls were made of mud. They are believed to bring good spirits to the home and remove evil spirits and used especially during festivals, celebrations, weddings and parties.
